Sally Field slams 'Spider-Man' role: 'You can't put 10 pounds of sh*t in a 5-pound bag'

Aunt May might have been the first person to feel Spider-Man fatigue.

Actress Sally Field, who played Peter Parker's aunt in the 2012 reboot The Amazing Spider-Man and its 2014 sequel, candidly told Howard Stern this week that she put little effort into her role.

"It's really hard to find a three-dimensional character in it," Field told Stern of her part in the franchise. "You work it as much as you can, but you can't put 10 pounds of shit in a five-pound bag."

The Oscar winner conceded that The Amazing Spider-Man isn't her type of movie, and that she didn't put "a great deal" of effort into playing the hero's aunt. In fact, Field said she only agreed to participate because she knew the first film would be the last made by her longtime friend Laura Ziskin, who died of breast cancer in 2011.

Field did praise Andrew Garfield's performance in the film, calling him a "lovely actor" with whom she enjoyed creating a relationship.
