Samsung will finally begin selling its ball-shaped Gear 360, which shoots 360-degree videos, in the U.S. some six months after it was unveiled.

Alongside the Galaxy Note 7's official unveil on Tuesday, Samsung announced the Gear 360 will get a wide online release in the U.S. on Aug. 19.

The 360 camera will cost $349.99 and only works with Samsung's Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, Note 5, S7, S7 Edge and Note 7 smartphones.

The release date is noteworthy because Samsung has been slow to properly sell it in the U.S.

Samsung has been slow to properly sell it in the U.S.

Instead, the company has been selling the camera in limited supply at events like VidCon and the Lollapalooza music festival. The intent was to get the camera to content creators first in hopes of them releasing more immersive 360 video content for regular consumers to view.

The Gear 360 has been available in South Korea and Singapore since April and launched in Australia in June.

Videos shot with the Gear 360 can be viewed on a computer or through Samsung's own Gear VR headset.

The camera is one of many new consumer-focused 360 cameras making their way to the market. LG's own 360 Cam and the 360fly are two others playing in the same space.

With the rise of VR, 360 video content and cameras are finally becoming mainstream.
