'Saturday Night Live' adds three new cast members
With Saturday Night Live losing power players and bringing new writers into 30 Rock, Lorne Michaels' comedy creation was bound to welcome some new blood. NBC confirmed on Monday that SNL's upcoming 42nd season will be the first for new cast members Mikey Day, Alex Moffat and Melissa Villaseñor.
Moffat, according to NBC's release, was a regular improviser at iO Chicago and the Annoyance Theatre in Los Angeles. Villaseñor – the show's first Latina cast member – comes from a background of standup comedy, having toured over 100 venues across the country with monologues and impressions. Day makes his debut as a featured cast member, after three years on the writing staff and recently writing and acting in the NBC variety show Maya & Marty. Before that, he performed in Los Angeles with Groundlings, the troupe that gave rise to SNL greats like Maya Rudolph, Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell.
SNL premieres Oct. 1 on NBC; the host and musical guest have not yet been announced.
