'Saturday Night Live' just launched its first Snapchat show and it's obviously about Trump
Now you can get your Saturday Night Live politics fix on Snapchat.
The NBC sketch comedy show on Friday rolled out its first SNL Story titled "Boycott," featuring cast members Aidy Bryant and Beck Bennett.
The short sketch follows a couple as they attempt to to boycott products associated with President Donald Trump -- including Uber, Lyft and Facebook -- but find it harder than they thought.
Bryant helped write the sketch with SNL co-head writers Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider. It was directed by Paul Briganti.
It was produced, shot and edited by the SNL Film Unit specifically for Snapchat’s unique vertical video shows platform and for the Snapchat audience (hence those tech references).
It features fast pacing use of split screens and audio and video cues to move the narrative from chapter to chapter for an innovative approach to mobile video.
The new SNL Snapchat content builds on the momentum of the show, which is having its most viewed season in 22 years.
The series itself was not teased or promoted in advance, but it didn't come from out of the blue. NBCUniversal was the first to strike a multi-year content deal with Snap Inc.
The digital show is among the many original programs being rolled out. Under the deal, NBCUniversal develops and sell advertising packages incorporating Snapchat’s expanded set of advertising products into its sponsorship, mobile and video offerings.
The Voice on Snapchat, which debuted Aug. 22, was the first show to launch under the deal.
NBCUniversal first partnered with Buzzfeed and Snapchat to co-produce and air daily live stories from the Olympic Games. NBCUniversal has also partnered with the platform on projects like Live Stories for Saturday Night Live's 40th Anniversary Special and Lenses for specials like Red Nose Day.
So far, viewers are into the SNL sketch.
