Seagull with boobs statue is tearing a Massachusetts town apart
Of the many issues a town on the east coast could face -- a voluptuous seagull statue near the piers of New Bedford, Massachusetts, might be the least of its worries.
You'd be wrong, though.
Dubbed "Seagull Cinderella" by its artist Donna Dodson, the sculpture depicting the seabird sporting a healthy pair of breasts is nestled on the corner of Route 18 and Elm Street, and residents are demanding its removal.

One resident, Ray Concannon, created an online petition, which currently has 396 of its required 1,000 supporters.
"[The statue] is ridiculous and makes our city look like a joke," the petition reads. "With New Bedford's rich history, we do not want visitors' lasting impressions to be [this]. What a waste. It needs to go. Remove it, or replace it with something beautiful."
Well, if you ask the all great artists of human history, you might find there's nothing more beautiful than the female bosom, good sir.
However, another resident, Garrett Rosa, has a competing petition, which currently has 186 of its required 1,000 supporters, to stop Concannon's petition to remove the statue.
"A petition is going around demanding the removal of the statue of the seagull with breasts," it says on Rosa's petition. "New Bedford is so full of art and out of the ordinary things it would be silly to remove this glorious statue...This man is just clearly uncomfortable by the female form and hates the art."
The sculpture is not the only artwork by Dodson to take on such a well-endowed form. Dodson is well-known for creating works of large-breasted pandas, cows, tigers and storks.
Dodson describes her seagull on her website as "common as the birds we see at the beach. Yet she is uncommon, like Marilla in Anne of Green Gables, corseted and bound by the sweet virtues of her character. Her full length gown is alive with neon daisies and flower power."
If Anne of Green Gables isn't wholesome enough for you, perhaps you're setting the bar too high.
