Shell will change its name to She'll for International Women's Day, effectively solving sexism

They're trying to make a statement for International Women's Day. It's not landing well.

In a stunning display of performative feminism, Shell is changing its name to She'll for International Women's Day.

Well, one Shell. A female-owned Shell station in San Dimas, California will add an apostrophe to its logos on Mar. 8 in an effort to inspire "the female leaders of tomorrow by closing the gender gap in engineering and technology through education, engagement, and awareness across the organization and industry," a Shell spokesperson told CBS Los Angeles. It's part of their new initiative "She Will," which seeks to diversify the company's workforce.

CBSN producer Sam Gavin posted a mock-up of the updated logo, which includes a comically small apostrophe to turn "Shell" into "She'll."

And with the addition of that apostrophe, Shell really does sweep its alleged complicity in irreversible climate change under the rug in the name of female empowerment.

Please appreciate this bizarre promotional video, in which Shell superimposes a series of disingenuous, vague statements over women's faces in a remarkable effort to be inspiration without saying anything at all.

"She will be heard. She will be recognized. She will be respected," the video says, before morphing "She will" into "Shell."

Unfortunately that effort failed to land on Twitter.
