One day, our children's children will be able to download the latest season of 4D Oscar-winning Vines instantly to their eyeballs -- and they will marvel in awe at the months and years our generation waited for the smallest glimpse of BBC's Sherlock.

The journey that often puts anticipation above payoff continues, with Season 4 beginning production over two years after Season 3 released on television. After enigmatic tweets and titillating pre-production photos, series co-creator Mark Gatiss finally posted a photo of Benedict Cumberbatch in costume as everyone's favorite difficult detective.

Gatiss, who also plays Mycroft Holmes, released a statement about what to expect this season with co-creator Steven Moffat last week:

Ghosts of the past are rising in the lives of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson bringing adventure, romance and terror in their wake. This is the story we’ve been telling from the beginning. A story about to reach its climax...

Maybe waiting isn't so bad.
