After a BuzzFeed article slammed the eating of ice cream sandwich-style, the Singapore Tourism Board has hit back in a bid to defend one of the nation's most popular street snacks.

The original article, posted a week ago, went viral in Singapore after someone noticed an ice cream wrapped in bread made the list of "absolute worst sandwiches that have ever happened".

This screencap from Mothership shows the sandwich, popular in South-east Asian countries such as Singapore and Malaysia, listed with the caption: "Don't eat bread and ice-cream, you f*ckers."

Singaporeans, Malaysians and foreigners then flooded the comments section to stage an indignant defence of the street treat.

But it seems the Singapore tourism agency's short and cutting response handled it most efficiently.

The government agency posted a gif of really yummy-looking ice-cream sandwiches posted on Instagram by Singaporeans, followed simply with: "Hey BuzzFeed UK, what's good?"

Since the article went viral, BuzzFeed has removed the ice-cream sandwich from the list and added this apology at bottom of the page:

So, it appears that an item originally in this post at #7 (an ice-cream sandwich) is in fact a Singaporean delicacy. In which case, I’m sure it’s delicious! A version with English bread and ice cream would not be nice. Sorry for the mistake in including it.
