Sinkholes happen, but most of us are lucky enough to avoid running into them when they magically implode into our lives.

Not for this poor couple though. Their car fell straight into a sinkhole in the Adelaide suburb of Glen Osmond, Australia late on Tuesday evening.

The couple were trying to enjoy the city lights from the hills, only to have the mood ruined by the 4 metre (13 foot) sinkhole opening up and swallowing their Suzuki, according to The Advertiser.

Fortunately, the couple weren't hurt in the incident, but the idea of watching the city lights from the hills will likely have lost its romantic appeal for the pair.

It turns out the sinkhole opened up above an old mineshaft, which was the reason behind another sinkhole in Australia earlier this year. Recent storms and heavy rains in the city could also be a contributor.

Sinkholes: Never fun.
