The "Sign in with Facebook" and "Sign in with Google" buttons have been a fixture on the web for years now, allowing Internet surfers to quickly create accounts on tons of websites with one click. No new usernames or passwords required.

Now that the chat app Slack is growing in popularity, the team behind it is throwing its collective head into the dedicated login button ring, The Next Web reported Tuesday. Slack announced that it released an API that can be integrated by developers into their websites and apps.

The "Sign in with Slack" button works just like other dedicated login buttons -- it takes your Slack credentials and uses them as your login information for whatever app or site allows it. If you update your Slack login information, it will update for the apps and websites you use it on as well.

Slack's sign-in button is really meant for teams

Slack's sign-in button is really meant for teams, though, which is Slack's corner in the chat market. According to the company's announcement, when you use Sign in with Slack, you connect with your Slack teammates within that website or app.

Sign in with Slack is also beneficial for those in the company who build the digital workspace for employees, making it easy to connect multiple accounts on individual business credentials.

"With Sign in with Slack, you can whitelist an entire Slack team as a group of new users, which eases billing and IT administration and improves end-user experience," Slack wrote in its announcement.

While it probably won't be replacing Facebook's or Google's sign-in buttons, Sign in with Slack could easily become the go-to means for creating work accounts across multiple platforms.
