It finally happened. Waylon Smithers from The Simpsons has officially come out of the closet.

The show's executive producer, Al Jean, announced six months ago that Smithers' big moment was coming

And in Sunday's episode -- titled "The Burns Cage" --  the 27-year-long rumors about Smithers' sexuality were finally confirmed by Smithers himself at a party thrown by Homer Simpson.

In the episode, Smithers finally realizes that his love for his boss Mr. Burns is unrequited. He takes his disappointment and frustration out on his employees, including Homer.

So, to improve their work lives and Smithers' love life, the staff takes to Grindr and invites as many men as they can to Homer's party.

Smithers' official coming out happens when he enters the party.

"I see what's going on here," Smithers tells Homer. "Fix up your boss so he won't be so hard on you."

Here's hoping a romance with Mr. Burns will finally happen for Smithers after all. 27 years is a long time to wait.
