Are you ready for some football (in Snapchat Discover)?

Snapchat and the National Football League have announced an expansion of their original partnership that will include a channel in the app's Discover area.

The Discover channel will have a variety of specialized content, but will also be a place for select game highlights, a major step in bringing high-quality sports content to Snapchat.

An NFL spokesperson said that highlights and game footage would not be the core focus of the channel. However, he said that if there is a particularly amazing play -- he referenced Odell Beckham's famous one-handed catch -- that could make its way to Discover.

"The launch of the NFL on Discover will provide a key touch point to follow storylines throughout the week, and the expansion of Live Stories will provide fans with a unique perspective of the excitement in and around our stadiums at every game all season-long," said Blake Stuchin, director of digital media business development for the NFL, in a press release.

Mashable had originally reported that the NFL was preparing to launch a Discover channel, making it the first sports league to be put alongside the media companies in the section.

The new deal builds on the original partnership that included Live Stories from NFL games and events. The NFL will now make Live Stories for all its games -- including the Super Bowl.

All 32 NFL teams will also have custom geofilters available near their stadiums and other particular locations.

Snapchat's growing relationship with the NFL is big for the app, which has been working to bring more high-end content that plays well with advertisers. Discover already features a variety of major publications that produce content specifically for its platform (Mashable is one of these partners).
