'Chewie, we're home': My stay at a Star Wars-themed Airbnb

There was a literal Dark Side to this apartment.

If Jay Leno can drive a Darth Vader-inspired car and anyone can go see a Star Wars-themed burlesque show, true fans should jump at the chance to stay at a Star Wars-decorated apartment.

The two-bedroom apartment listed on Airbnb is located in Hudson, New York, a hub for charming antique shops, bookstores with beer on tap, and absolutely phenomenal restaurants. We heard one local describe the people as "retired hippies."

Themed Airbnb listings are popular. There's a New York City apartment dedicated to "Netflix and Chill"; Super Mario features heavily in one Tokyo apartment; and in Chicago a room is designed like a Vincent van Gogh painting.

My boyfriend and I chose Star Wars, because quite obviously I'm the best girlfriend ever. (I had never seen the movies prior to us dating.) For only $90 a night, even over Valentine's weekend, I couldn't say "no" to my adorkable super fan.

The apartment was cute and very on theme. The master bedroom was decorated like the ice planet of Hoth, a smart design choice due to the relaxing color palette.

We found these stickers throughout the house:

Both bedrooms featured framed behind the scenes photographs from the original movies, or these, my new favorite pictures of Storm Troopers:

The decoration was just the right amount, not tacky in the slightest — perhaps a new style of home decorating I'm prepared to coin right now, called "subtle nerd."

While the concept is cute and the hospitality was generous, this geek palace is in the process of being renovated. The headboard in the master bedroom is against a door leading to house's main hallway and has been painted shut, meaning you hear other tenants going up and down stairs all hours of the night.

The massive gas heater in the master bedroom is the main source of heating for the house and left the rest of the house very cold, especially this weekend with negative temperatures. However our last night there it kept kicking on to full blast, making it feel like an oven.

There is literally a "Dark Side" of the apartment, which I suppose is appropriate. The main hallways and living room have such little lighting it made every room but the master dreary past sundown. The bathroom needs some fixing up, too.

But if you aren't looking to spend a weekend in a five-star hotel and want a quirky place to snuggle up and watch The Original Trilogy, this is certainly your spot — maybe just wait until spring.
