Stephen Curry consoles Devin Harris' nephew after his father's death

He spent a moment consoling and praying for him.

Basketball isn't always about competing. Stephen Curry is a great example of putting the sport aside to lend support to a fellow competitor and his family.

The Golden State Warrior point guard spent pregame time consoling 9-year-old Brayden Harris, who lost his father due to a car accident.

Brayden Harris happens to be Mavericks guard Devin Harris' nephew. Harris didn't play in Monday's game, but decided to come by to take his mind off the tragedy.

After the game, a reporter asked Curry what message he gave Harris' nephew during their meeting.

"It's obviously sometimes hard to find the right words to say in that situation because it's such a tough blow to the family," he told reporters. "And for him, at that age, I can't imagine what he's going through."

"But best thing I can say is to lean on his family to give him that strength to get through this tough time. Nobody can tell him how to feel," he added.

"Allow himself to kind of get through this the best he can, but with his family at his side and lean on them for strength and love, hopefully they'll be there for him. That's the best I can tell him."

According to Dallas Morning News, Curry also signed a couple of autographed items for Harris.

During hard times, it's great to see athletes coming together despite opposing teams and working together as a family.
