Reddit immediately notices T-Mobile's higher 'unlimited' data plan

If only true, unadulterated unlimited data was a real thing.

But as a consolation, T-Mobile customers this week were surprised with a 2GB increase from 28GB to 30GB each month as the threshold before their data is throttled, or slowed down for "deprioritization," which gives priority to other customers. But there's still no overage charges, so some semblance of an unlimited plan is preserved.

Eagle-eye Redditors in the T-Mobile subreddit noticed that the data plan had changed --for the better -- in the fine print. The Verge confirmed with a T-Mobile spokesperson that the new higher limit has gone into effect to reflect user habits. The bump in data still crushes T-Mobile's competitors' plans. On Verizon and AT&T the throttling begins at 22GB per billing cycle, while Sprint is at 23GB.

All the carriers have similar excuses for slowing down your data: Once you hit a pre-designated threshold, you are only throttled at "constrained" times and locations. Getting tripped up by a tower under high demand is rare, a T-Mobile rep said.

T-Mobile's data boost comes only days after offering free iPhone 7s to new network customers (and anyone willing to trade-in their old phone).

Once customers realized they'd have even more data they were quick to rejoice.
