3-year-old asks for Target-themed birthday party, mom delivers
Listen, we're gonna let you finish, but this 3-year-old had one of the best birthday parties of all time.
Turns out Target – yes, the big box store where you buy all your snacks – makes a great theme for a child's soirée. Just ask little Charlie.
"When I first asked Charlie what kind of party and she said Target, I laughed," Charlie's mom Emily Kern told Mashable. "It was hysterical 'cause she was dead serious when she said it."
The toddler's love for the big-box retailer began when she was just an infant, back when her parents would bring her along on shopping trips. Just being there makes her day. But though Charlie's parents were initially skeptical of her party request, they eventually came around to the idea.
Kern went D.I.Y. on Target-themed invitations, decorations, and a cake for her daughter's special day.
"I made my own Target symbols and bought letter balloons for the front of the house to act as the store front and cafe," Kern said.
Employees at her local Target store supplied Kern with stickers and bags that acted as party favors for Charlie's friends and family.
The kids were even encouraged to pretend they were shopping during the festivities.
The set-up took up most of the morning and finished just moments before the party actually began, but Charlie's reaction made the effort all worthwhile.
"Charlie had just woken up from a nap and when she came down and saw all the decorations, she flipped! She yelled 'Yay Target! It’s my Target,'" said Kern.
Charlie's birthday was such a hit that Kern received nonstop compliments from her daughter's guests.
"Some knew about her theme before the party and laughed because they know she likes Target," said Kern. "But when they showed up and saw the house decorated and everything I talked about played out they loved it."
