Are Toad and Toadette bumping uglies?

The "shroommates" look very happy together.

Toad and Toadette may not be as innocent as they look.

In the past year, we have been blessed with our first look at Mario's nipples, we witnessed a thorough investigation into the size of Luigi's penis, and we were reminded that Mario once bared his penis in a comic from the '80s.

The latest scandal to hit the usually wholesome Mushroom Kingdom is an image of Toad and Toadette from the 2008 game Mario Kart Wii in which the two characters are seen holding hands.

This seemingly innocuous image has people's imaginations running wild.

As Twitter user MarioBrothBlog states, this is the only time that Toad and Toadette are ever shown holding hands. One could say this is because the two are just loving siblings, but Nintendo already put the kibosh on that theory four years ago.

Koichi Hayashida, producer on Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, told GameSpot in 2014 that the Toads are not siblings — they are adventure pals.

"This is maybe a little bit of a strange story, but we never really went out of our way to decide on the sex of these characters, even though they have somewhat gendered appearances," Hayashida said. "But I think what I can say is that Toadette and Toad are not siblings -- perhaps it would be more accurate to say they are adventure pals. And that’s certainly true here [in Captain Toad]."

Additionally, in Mario Party 6, the duo are described as "shroommates," an obvious play on the word roommate.

So Toad and Toadette are not siblings, they live together, they go on adventures together, they hold hands, and Toadette winks while doing so.

There's only one logical conclusion to all of this: Toad and Toadette are fucking.

Well, maybe not that, but they're probably making out and doing whatever it is that Toads do for pleasure. The creatures have no discernible genitals, but they're definitely getting down.

Just look at that picture from Mario Kart Wii. Look at Toadette's face. Look at that wink. Look at Toad's exuberance. That's a healthy, happy couple if I've ever seen one. And they're definitely fucking.
