Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton locked horns Monday night during the first of several presidential debates and the world was watching -- and tweeting and Googling and posting things to Facebook.

The 90-minute session at Long Island's Hofstra University was split into six sections, covering topics such as "America's Direction," "Achieving Prosperity" and "Security America."

On Twitter, Facebook and Google, certain themes dominated the online discussion as the candidates tussled. Here's how it played out online.

The most tweeted topics during the debate were, in order: the economy, foreign affairs, energy and environment, terrorism, and guns.

Trump dominated the conversation on Twitter, meanwhile, grabbing 62 percent of the conversation.

The most retweeted tweet during the debate was actually something Trump wrote in 2012 about global warming.

Google Trends

On Google, ISIS again dominated as the night progressed, while policing, race and immigration were hot topics too.

In contrast to Twitter, Clinton dominated search interest on Google during the debate, although Trump did surge near the end.

"For only the fifth time in 2016, Hillary Clinton overtook Donald Trump in national search interest: 60 percent for Hillary Clinton, 40 percent for Donald Trump during the debate," Google said.

Clinton was more searched than Trump in all 50 states.

Trump did, however, send a massive spike for the word "braggadocious."

Some of the top fact check questions on Clinton, according to Google, were "Is stop and frisk unconstitutional?" and "What happened in Benghazi?" For Trump, people asked "How much money did Trump get from his dad?" and "How many times has Trump filed for bankruptcy?"

On Facebook

The platform said that the most social moment during the first half of the debate was again ISIS, and Trump's claim that Clinton "tells you how to fight" the group on her website.

The top social moment in the second half was Trump telling the audience "my strongest asset is my temperament."

The top issues, Facebook told Mashable, were: taxes, ISIS, racial issues, the economy, crime and criminal justice. He took 79 percent of the conversation to her 21 percent.
