Uber drivers in the UK are now entitled to holiday, paid rest breaks and the National Living Wage according to a landmark ruling.

An employment organization, the London Central Employment Tribunal, ruled that Uber is acting unlawfully by not giving drivers basic employment rights.

Uber has argued that its drivers are self-employed, not workers.

The GMB union hailed the ruling as a "monumental victory" for 30,000 drivers.

Uber said in a statement it would appeal the decision made by the London tribunal:

In the case, two drivers, James Farrar and Yaseen Aslam, argued that their actions were controlled by Uber, which meant they were far from being self-employed.

The ruling could affect workers in other companies with similar business models.
