'Far Cry 5' and 'Assassin's Creed' are on Ubisoft's calendar for this year
Ubisoft's upcoming release slate includes four big names: Far Cry, Assassin's Creed, South Park, and The Crew.
Those are the games slated for release during the publisher's 2017 fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2018. In other words: barring unforeseen delays -- an inescapable reality of game development -- Ubi plans to release all four of those games before the end of March next year.
The news come from the publisher's latest earnings report, covering its fiscal 2016 calendar.
What exactly each of those games will be varies. We already know that South Park is The Fractured But Whole, an RPG sequel to 2014's The Stick of Truth.
We also know the Far Cry game is Far Cry 5, thanks to a Ubisoft announcement on Twitter. It's the same situation for The Crew, with a logo announcement for the open world racing game sequel also shared on Twitter.
Assassin's Creed is the most mysterious -- Ubi made it clear there will be something at E3, but nothing more. However, a recent rumor suggested the game's title will be Assassin's Creed: Origins and the setting will be Egypt; the latter point lines up with a Kotaku report from 2016 on the game's setting.
The earnings report also provides a sense of what's coming in fiscal 2018, which covers the period from April 1, 2018 through March 31, 2019. Nothing is mentioned by name, but the plan is to release "four AAA titles with three established franchises and a new brand."
It's far too early to speculate which games this might refer to. Watch Dogs, The Division, Ghost Recon, and Rainbow Six are all possibilities, but who really knows? Avatar is a likely candidate too, though that could be the "new brand" referred to in the earnings report.
For more details on the 2017 games, expect to hear plenty more when E3 rolls around in June. As for the rest... we'll have to wait and see.
