United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz is being re-accommodated from a seat he was led to believe would be his.

The beleaguered boss, whose fumbled apologies following the David Dao controversy made everything so much worse for United, will not chair the company board in 2018.

United announced the news in a regulatory filing Friday, Reuters reported. The official line is that Munoz opted to leave "future determinations related to the chairman position to the discretion of the board."

Munoz is currently a board member and was scheduled to take on the chairman role in 2018.

We've reached out to United for more comment.

Last year the CEO's total compensation was $18.7 million, CNBC reported, but that is apparently being evaluated following the fiasco. Eek.
