LONDON -- A tweet posted by Urban Decay has been heavily criticised on social media after people felt it referred to self-harm.

The makeup brand tweeted, "Ready for some Razor Sharp Swatches, UDers?" accompanied by an image of a model's wrist with colour swatches.

The tweet about the brand's Razor Sharp eyeliner -- which has since been deleted -- caused something of a Twitter storm, with many calling out the brand for its "bad taste".

Others conceded that the wrist is typically where people do makeup swatches, but the language used in the added a "risky" dimension.

Responding to the criticism, Urban Decay defended the image of the inner arm swatches, stating that the reference to self-harm was unintentional.
