Paper hearts are a thing of the past. Crystal hearts are way cooler.

Pinterest reports that "Valentine's Day science experiment" pins are up 300% from 2015. The term is now ranking among pins for "Valentine's crafts" and "Valentine's ideas." This means more people are looking for science-based ways for kids (or adults) to make their own gifts for the holiday.

Valentine's Day isn't the only day of the year getting a scientific makeover. Pinterest says STEM-related pins have increased 30 times over last year.

The parenting category saw an over 55% increase of the search term "experiments" in 2015, and the website sees the most amount of spikes with the term around June, February and October, when kids are getting out of school and around two craft-centric holidays, Valentine's Day and Halloween.

With nearly 30 million boards from teachers and parents dedicated to sharing ideas for kids, the Thanksgiving paper hand-turkey may soon be extinct.
