Man arrested for failing to return VHS 14 years ago
VHS never died -- it just went away for a little while.
James Meyers of Concord, North Carolina, learned that lesson the hard way on Tuesday when local police pulled him over with an arrest warrant. Fourteen years ago, Meyers failed to return his VHS copy of Freddy Got Fingered to J&J's video store in nearby Kannapolis. Though the store has since closed, Meyers was accused of "failing to return rental property," a misdemeanor punishable with a fine of up to $200.

The officer had initially pulled Meyers over for a broken taillight. After running his license, the officer pulled him out of the car 25 minutes later.
"The officer said, 'I don’t know how to tell you this but there’s a warrant out for your arrest from 2002. Apparently you rented the movie Freddy Got Fingered and never returned it.' I thought he was joking,” Meyers told local news station WSOC-TV.
Freddy Got Fingered is a 2001 comedy and box office flop starring comedian Tom Green. The film has earned a whopping 11% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. After hearing of Meyers' arrest, Green told The Daily News that he'd be willing to put in a good word with the court or even assist financially.

"If it’s 200 bucks of course I’ll pay it for him, just for the principle of the thing,” Green said.
When cops pulled Meyers over, he was driving his daughter to school. Cops allowed him to drop her off, on the grounds that he returned to the police department later in the day. Meyers thought it was a non-issue, but when he returned to the department, cops arrested him and took him to the magistrate.
"They’re not focusing on the crimes I think they should be focusing on. That hour the cops sat out there with me, the hour and a half I was down in the magistrate's office could have been spent somewhere else," Meyers said.
