Photographer captures remarkable shots of waterspout in Italy
Stunning photographs of a severe thunderstorm and a waterspout were captured above the North Adriatic Sea in Fiorenzuola di Focara, Italy.
The photographs, which recently began circulating online, were taken on Aug. 11 by Francesco Gennari, a storm chaser and weather photographer.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) defines waterspouts as "whirling columns of air and water mist," which form over bodies of water.

The NOAA also explains that waterspouts are generally associated with severe thunderstorms and are often accompanied by high winds, hail and dangerous lightning.
In a Facebook post, Gennari explained that he took the photographs on a beautiful night, and the sight of the waterspout both amazed and excited him.
