LONDON -- Remember the intense, nail-biting tournament that was the World Cup of Crisps 2016, which took place back in March and resulted in Monster Munch Pickled Onion being crowned the controversial winner?

Of course you do, it was huge.

And the good news is, the run-up to Christmas has come with yet another Twitter-based tournament.

On Thursday evening, UK TV presenter Richard Osman kicked off what will surely be the fiercest of festive battles: the World Cup of Christmas Films 2016.

Here's how the first round (which finished this morning) shaped up.

It's been a close run thing in a lot of groups, but Home Alone, Die Hard and Elf are looking like strong early contenders.

The Second Round is currently under way, with the vote closing this afternoon.

Here are the Second Round groups (again, the top two qualify).

You can -- and absolutely should -- head over to Richard Osman's Twitter feed right this very minute and vote. It's pretty much your duty.

You can even bet on the outcome, with all the money from losing bets going to charity.

The two winning films from each Second Round group will go through to the Quarter finals, and it looks like the whole thing will finish with an intense final on Christmas eve.

We're already struggling to decide who to root for.
