TL;DR: As of Oct. 1, you can get the XC Security Camera with Hub Plus Two Door Sensors for $56.99 instead of $79.99, or just get the camera for $29.99 instead of $59.99.

Security cameras may be able to do more for your home security than you think. A survey of 422 actual burglars found that 60% of them would find a new target if a home had security cameras. The technology behind the cameras themselves has also improved, with smarter features packed into a more compact space. This XC Security Camera from Bosma can capture video at 1080p resolution, but it can also sound its own alarm and store footage on an SD card, and that’s not even touching the door sensors or security hub. The camera itself is on sale for 50% off, but you may want to see what it can do when you get the door sensors and hub, too.

A smart security system in four parts

One of Bosma's previous models, the X1, won a Red Dot Award, so it's a good sign the XC is on the right track. It has a 180º camera lens and 360º panning. Anywhere you point it, that means you’re getting a super-wide angle view. You aren’t just limited to sight though. While the Bosma XC does have motion detention, it also has sound detection. If motion or sound is detected near your camera, it will start recording and send an alert to you.

Detecting motion doesn’t guarantee something nefarious is afoot though. The pizza delivery person will trigger the motion detector as surely as a burglar, though you’ll probably be happier to see one of them. And if you’re stuck in the kitchen and can’t get to the door, you can communicate directly through the camera using two-way audio, so they can hear you (when you want them to) and you can hear them. You can also launch a 90dB alert using the built-in siren, though you may not want to use that for delivery drivers.

Pair your security camera with the security hub along with the door and windows sensors for an even more comprehensive home security system. The sensors will detect and notify you if your doors or windows open, and the hub communicates directly with your camera and you.

Get a better view of what’s happening at home

Home security systems may have been expensive once, but now you can keep watch yourself. Get the XC Security Camera with Hub + 2 Door Sensors for $56.99 (Reg. $79), or get just the camera for $29.99 (Reg. $59).

Prices subject to change.
