We still have no idea when it's coming or how much it will cost, though.

You can now sign up to be notified about PlayStation 5 preorders

At long last, we finally know when the PlayStation 5 will be hitting store shelves.

Just kidding, no we don't. But, you can now sign up to be notified via email when you can pre-order the new console (supposedly it's launching this holiday season, but as with everything else in 2020, plans are up in the air).

So, here's how you can get on that preorder notification list:

You'll want to head over to PlayStation's preorder page, located here. Scroll down to the bottom and you'll see a box where you can type in your PlayStation Online ID (yes, you'll need to have one of those already if you want to be in the database, which means you'll need to have owned a PS3 or PS4 at some point). And, well, that's it.

While signing up isn't very complicated, everything else is. Signing up for a preorder notification does not guarantee you the opportunity to actually pre-order the console. "There will be a limited quantity of PS5 consoles available for pre-order, so we will be inviting some of our existing consumers to be one of the first to pre-order one from PlayStation," Sony's direct pre-order page states.

Invites for pre-ordering won't be going out to every person who signs up, unfortunately, and not everyone who gets one of those coveted email invites will be able to get a PlayStation 5. "Pre-order reservations will be taken on a first-come-first-serve basis, so once you get an invite via email, we encourage you to follow instructions and act fast," the page says. The PS5, as well as its all-digital edition, will be available during this preorder period, and will come bundled with the new DualSense wireless controller (including all the cords you need to get the whole thing up and running).

For more info, including what other add-ons you can order with your console if selected, how many consoles you can pre-order at once, and more, PlayStation has posted a detailed FAQ on the process (the price of the console and its launch date are still unknown, but we'll let you know as soon as that news drops).

Sony officially revealed the PlayStation 5 back in July, along with a slew of next-gen games that are coming to the console when it launches. Stay tuned for more information to come.
