It's no secret that most pet owners spend a lot (and I mean a lot) of money on their dogs. Pets are the new kids, and we absolutely treat them as such.

Luckily, the dog product market is full of innovative, aesthetically-pleasing, and durable products these days for every type of dog owner out there. Thanks to curated direct-to-consumer dog brands, you'll never have resign to the ugly dog bed from your local superstore or cheap stuffed toys that will be torn apart in seconds.

Whether you've had dogs your entire life or you're looking into bringing a new pup home for the first time, we've put together a list of some of the best dog gear we've hands-on tested this year. Some of these pup products are downright trendy, like the infamously stylish Fable dog crate, and some offer pure convenience for owners, like the Wild One rinseless shampoo and the Chom Chom pet hair remover.

We've also added one of our favorite enrichment toys to this list, which can help your dog stay mentally stimulated and keep them entertained for a while (so you can actually get some work done for once).

Read on for the full rundown of all our favorite tried and tested dog gear.

Black and white dog laying in a stylish wooden dog crate

Fable Pets Crate

For design-focused dog owners

The Good & The Bad

  • Prettiest dog crate to ever exist
  • Creates a den-like environment for dogs
  • More comfortable than a wire crate
  • Doubles as a side table
  • Space-saving garage door design
  • Allows some light while maintaining max airflow
  • Pricey
  • No size for large dogs
  • Not portable like a wire crate

Why We Like It

Crate training your dog is great for a plethora of reasons, but the only downside is having a clunky black metal pet crate in the middle of your house.

Even if you're not keen on home decor, your inner interior designer will love the Fable Pets dog crate. Not only is it the most beautiful side table ever, it's also a highly-functional dog crate. The wood design is the perfect relaxing, Scandinavian-inspired dog den, the cut out windows optimize airflow and light for your furry friend, and the unique garage door closure saves space so you'll never run into an open crate door again.

Choose from size small ($395) or medium ($595) and select a white metal or clear acrylic door, depending on how involved your pup likes to be in day to day activities.

Spray bottle held up in front of two houseplants

Wild One rinseless shampoo

Best for dogs who hate baths

The Good & The Bad

  • Smells great
  • Ideal for in-between baths
  • Easy to use
  • Makes your dog wet for a little while
  • Some pups don't like spray bottles

Why We Like It

Giving dogs a bath (especially bigger dogs) is sometimes a two person job. If you just don't have time for the ordeal that is bath time, Wild One introduced the perfect solution — rinseless dog shampoo. While it's not technically a dry shampoo, it works in the same way by giving your pup's fur an extra refresh between baths. It smells super fresh and gets rid of odors and greasy feeling dog fur. It's not a complete replacement for a bath, but it'll keep your dog looking and smelling clean for an extra one to two weeks between grooming sessions.

Details

The Good & The Bad

  • Comes in sets of two so you can size your dog's front and back paws
  • Vibram outsole gives extra traction
  • Hook and loop velcro closure keeps boots secure and keeps dirt out
  • Breathable mesh upper
  • Protects paws from hot surfaces and sharp objects
  • Since they come in sets of two, you have to buy two pairs.
  • Not waterproof

Why We Like It

You might think that dogs only need boots if they're doing serious hiking, but they can also benefit from a pair of boots during the warmer months. The temperature of the sidewalk, asphalt, and even dirt gets much hotter than the air temperature in the warmer months, and can cause burns and blisters to unprotected dog paws. These Ruffwear boots are the ideal form of paw protection, and they actually stay on your dog's feet.

If you do happen to be the outdoorsy type, the Grip Trex boots also work well on the trails. The Vibram outsole is as grippy as the soles of human hiking boots, so your pup will have maximum traction and stability while hiking. They're also ideal for avoiding dirty paws, and protecting from sharp objects outdoors, too.

Black and white dog laying on a tan colored bed

Fable dog bed

For minimal households

The Good & The Bad

  • Exterior cover is waterproof, stain-resistant, UV-resistant, and durable
  • Inner insert is washable
  • Shredded memory foam is supportive
  • Bed is super plush
  • Pricey

Why We Like It

Snoozing is serious business for pups. As owners, we want their sleep spots to be cozy, supportive, durable and — above all — easy to clean. The Fable Pets dog bed checks all these boxes, and its simple, minimalist design will fit in with any home decor. The shredded memory foam insert is surprisingly supportive and fluffy and won't flatten out (even after months of daily and nightly use). The whole thing is also washable — including the inner memory foam insert.

Match your dog's bed to your home's color scheme and choose from six different aesthetically-pleasing colors, from a light blush pink, to the perfect off-white.

Close up of person wearing a black treat pouch as a crossbody bag

Wild One Treat Pouch

Best for on-the-go treats

The Good & The Bad

  • Stylish, minimal design
  • Roomy enough for treats and poop bags
  • Magnetic closure for easy access
  • Can be worn as a fanny pack, over the shoulder, or crossbody
  • Not big enough for some bulky everyday carry items, like wallets

Why We Like It

Pups working on recall, obedience, and reactivity training all deserve to get paid for their hard work in the form of tasty snacks. The Wild One treat pouch keeps you hands-free on walks and stocked up with snacks, and the magnetic top closure is pretty much the smartest invention ever. Stick your hand right into the bag to grab a snack for your good boy or girl with no delays due to annoying zippers, buttons, or other closures. The magnetic top also keeps treats from spilling out when the bag is turned upside down (but it's not totally dog proof, so don't leave it around for nosey pups to snoop through!)

Two key-shaped dog toys in grass

Fable Pets Falcon Toy

Best for keeping your dog busy

The Good & The Bad

  • Enrichment-focused
  • Top rack dishwasher-safe
  • Decently durable
  • Discount when you buy two
  • Comes in cute colors
  • Can act as a tug toy
  • A single falcon toy is much easier for a dog to destroy than two connected ones
  • Best play experience when two toys are connected

Why We Like It

The Falcon Toy is a unique enrichment game for dogs that actually tires them out. Two toys can be connected together for more engaged play, which we found to be the best way to use them. The Falcon Toy comes decked out with two different treat cavities, and can even be put in the freezer for some extra difficulty. It can also be used as a tug toy, and its two-sided design minimizes slobber on your hands — a great example of Fable's mission of thoughtfully designed dog products.

The Good & The Bad

  • 100% waterproof
  • Hood with visor keeps your dog's head dry but still allows them to see
  • Roomy enough for barrel-chested dogs
  • Larger sizes are more expensive

Why We Like It

Going on walks in the rain was a nightmare before I bought this raincoat for my dog. Not only would she come inside totally soaked, but she'd have mud all over her belly from walking in the dirt. A good raincoat means that your couches, floors, and your dog's bed will stay cleaner, and your pooch won't need to be bathed after every single rainstorm.

This Canada Pooch raincoat completely covers your dog's belly area, keeping them clear of water and mud. The little hood with an attached visor also helps when it's really coming down outside, keeping your dog's head dry while still allowing them to see. The material is also thick and incredibly high quality, and features reflective trim for extra safety.

The Good & The Bad

  • Removes more hair than a vacuum
  • Reusable, doesn't require any replacement sheets
  • No batteries or power needed
  • Traps all hair in a hidden compartment that can be emptied
  • Somewhat small
  • You have to manually run it over every surface to remove all hair

Why We Like It

I thought my Dyson vacuum was good at sucking up the dog hair from my couch — until I tried the Chom Chom. This ingenious little tool is like an amped up lint roller that doesn't require any replacement sheets, picks up hair and dander like a beast, and is super easy to clean out. All the fur gets trapped in the back compartment which can easily be opened up and emptied in the trash. It's also gentle enough that it won't snag or damage any fabric and is great to keep in your car on the go.
