Andy Samberg talks to Desus and Mero about releasing 'Palm Springs' during the pandemic

Look, everyone's not quite fine right now, and you can tell by the tone everyone responds to that dreaded question: "How are you?" That includes Desus and Mero, and Andy Samberg, who was interviewed by the Showtime stars on Sunday about his new film Palm Springs.

"You know we're lying because our voices, they pitch up a little bit when you bullshit, like, 'Ahh nah, we're good. Yeah, world's going fine. Everything's fine,' said The Kid Mero in the chat's kickoff.

Samberg talked to Desus and Mero about starring in Hulu's most-streamed movie ever ("out of three whole movies"), and why they released it during lockdown instead of waiting for a cinema release à la Christopher Nolan's Tenet. "We talked about it and it's becoming clear to everybody in our business we have no fucking clue when it's gonna come back," he said. "So there was a real discussion and Hulu was bullish about it, they wanted to put it out now in summer, and knowing people would be at home and streaming more. Given the subject matter of the movie, there's like a 'stuck in a loop' nature to it, so I just put my trust in them and it seems like it's working."

Samberg also talked about the fact that the entertainment industry is all about pitching animated projects right now over Zoom, about being with his family during lockdown, and which hip hop album he'd take to a...lonely...island. Ah.

Palm Springs is now streaming on Hulu.
