Some people use clocks, calendars, and changing seasons to mark the passage of time, but true Billie Eilish fans know to mark another full year in the books when the singer's annual Vanity Fair interview drops.

Every Oct. 18 since 2017, Vanity Fair has checked in with the singer and asked her the same series of questions. The interview has become somewhat of a holiday tradition amongst Eilish fans, and it's allowed the world to see just how much the now 18-year-old has grown over the years — both personally and career-wise.

Eilish kicked off her fourth interview by saying "This is getting out of hand," followed by, "I'm doing this shit til I'm 90, so get ready for it." After doing the initial Instagram follower check and introducing us to her new puppy, Shark, she got down to business.

As it turns out, looking back on past predictions, goals, and fears in a pandemic isn't that fun. Eilish answered tough questions like "What's a positive thing in the news right now?" and "What's your biggest fear a year from now?" and took time to genuinely reflect on pressing issues like police brutality, racism, the climate crisis, and the 2020 election.

"It's been a crazy year," the teen said, but she stressed that the challenges have taught her not to take anything for granted.

While 2020's interview was far more somber than interviews past, we still hope there are decades more Eilish check-ins to come.
