After four seasons of alliance and animosity, betrayal and hard-won trust, it all comes down to John Silver (Luke Arnold) and James Flint (Toby Stephens), whose tumultuous relationship has been the foundation of Starz's Black Sails since the beginning.

In Mashable's exclusive sneak peek at the Black Sails series finale, airing Sunday, April 2 at 9 p.m., the two share a heartfelt moment of understanding, as Flint expresses his empathy for Silver’s desperation to save Madi, given the pain and sacrifice of his own forbidden love for Thomas Hamilton.

Despite their rocky history, Flint vows to stand with Silver to the end, and "put things back together again so that we can move forward."

Pirates don't often have a happy ending (although we know from Treasure Island that Silver doesn't fare too badly), but it's still awesome to see these two icons united after everything they've been through.
