The first trailer for the long-awaited Borderlands film is finally here, teasing a sci-fi Western adventure that involves fighting aliens, bandits, and the urge to throw up.

Directed by Eli Roth, Borderlands follows bright-haired bounty hunter Lilith (Cate Blanchett) as she returns to her home planet Pandora in search of a missing girl. She soon finds herself teaming up with an unlikely assortment of characters, including mercenary Roland (Kevin Hart), preteen demolitions expert Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), scientist Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis), masked muscle Krieg (Florian Munteanu), and smart-mouthed robot Claptrap (voiced by Jack Black).

Borderlands has a lot to live up to. Fans of the popular video game franchise it's based on have been waiting for this film since it was first announced nine years ago, leaving plenty of time for expectations to grow. Judging from this trailer, it certainly looks as though the movie aims to capture the game's iconic visuals and comedic flair.

We'll have to wait and see if it's successful when Borderlands arrives in theatres Aug. 9.
