The wonders of technology have now yielded a tiny robot that not only resembles a cockroach but, like that pest, is incredibly fast and very, very hard to destroy.

Yichuan Wu, one of the UC Berkeley researchers involved in the miniature robot's creation, pointed out that such a little, durable robot could take on important, dangerous tasks, like searching earthquake debris for survivors, that humans or larger robots can't safely execute.

It's especially helpful that, as currently built, the bot can withstand up to 60 kg (or around 132 pounds) of pressure, making it hard to kill — just like your average kitchen-roaming cockroach.

While the robot currently operates via a connected wire, researchers continue work on it, hoping to add a tiny battery and the ability to direct the bot around obstacles.
