Late night host Conan O'Brien opened his show with a message about the Orlando shooting, which he says is "still impossible to fathom."

The comedian began by saying he's always made it a policy to "stick to my job and keep my opinions to myself," but he simply had to get personal on this issue.

"I am a father of two," he said. "I like to believe I have a shred of common sense and I simply do not understand why anybody in this country is allowed to purchase and own a semi-automatic assault rifle."

He also agreed with the "rapidly growing sentiment in America that it's time to grow up and figure this out." He joins fellow late night hosts like Samantha Bee, who made a stirring call to "get semi-automatic assault rifles out of the hands of civilians."

Fifty people were killed, including the shooter, and 53 more were injured, when a man stormed a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, early Sunday morning with an assault-style rifle and a semi-automatic handgun.

O'Brien closed his remarks with a call to the GoFundMe account for the victims of the Pulse shooting, which you can find here. The fund has raised over $3 million thus far, with a goal of $5 million.
