It's no secret that college grads across the United States are faced with crippling student loan debt from lenders that are less than helpful at times. Paying off the debt is now a dream for many, replacing the notion of owning a home.

When rapper Dee-1 received his advance on his record deal, he didn't go out and spend the money on lavish dinners and expensive clothes. Instead he decided to pay Sallie Mae back, an infamous student loan lender in the United States.

Next, Dee-1 decided to write a triumphant song highlighting his accomplishment, because getting out of student loan debt desperately needed a victory song.

Editor's note: The author of this article is no stranger to student loan debt, which was once serviced by Sallie Mae.
