Comedy legend Don Rickles died Thursday afternoon, and a clip of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler honoring him in 2014 is the perfect tribute.

Fey and Poehler appeared on Spike TV's One Night Only: An All-Star Comedy Tribute to Don Rickles to speak to Rickles' legacy and career.

Fey opens the segment, eerily enough, as if he's passed away, before Poehler interrupts her to point out that Rickles is alive and well before them.

"Jesus, I thought that was someone's purse," Fey says. "I'm so sorry."

"Don's work ethic is unparalleled," Poehler says of the stand-up career he sustained throughout his life. "And after seeing Don Rickles perform when I was little, I knew what I wanted to be," Poehler says. "A comedian," she finishes, as Fey says "A short, bald Jewish man."

The jokes may tease but you can see Rickles sitting in the front, laughing at each one.
