Pool parties can be pretty awkward even under the best of circumstances. But a pool party when you're a shy, self-conscious teenager surrounded by pretty, popular girls you barely even know?

Excuse me while I go hide under my desk just thinking about this concept.

Honestly, that visceral secondhand panic is basically Eighth Grade in a nutshell. Bo Burnham's directorial debut is so spot-on in its depiction of adolescence that you might leave this movie feeling like a teen again yourself.

Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing depends, I guess, on how much you liked that time of your life.

In this clip, 13-year-old Kayla (Elsie Fisher) doesn't seem to be enjoying herself much at all. She finds herself at a b-day bash for one of the cool girls from school. Everyone's laughing and splashing and having a great time but Kayla, who's stuck all alone on the sidelines.

That is, until the irrepressible Gabe shows up to introduce himself in what might be the most middle-school-boy way possible.

Watch their meet-awkward above. If you can bear how painfully #relatable it all is.

Eighth Grade is in theaters now.
