We already knew that George Michael had a special connection to Carpool Karaoke, but the extent to which he influenced and affected James Corden's life really hits home in the clip above.

During 2017's first episode of The Late Late Show, Corden opened up about the time he spent with the singer, and the 2011 car journey sketch that directly led to Mariah Carey agreeing to be the first ever official Carpool Karaoke guest.

It's clear from what Corden says that without George Michael, one of today's most popular viral video series may not have existed at all.
