You know it's not a regular day at work when you happen across a drowning wallaby in middle of the ocean. That's what happened to Gold Coast Jet Boat operator Jamie Earley on Friday.

Earley was on an afternoon trip with customers when he noticed something he'd never before seen in his 10 years in the 'biz.

Earley told The Gold Coast Bulletin that he saw a wallaby launch itself into deep water in an attempt to evade a pursuing dog.

"I just saw it jump right into the water, and then I realised there was a dog chasing it," Earley told the newspaper. "It was with an afternoon tour but though I’ve got to do something about this," he added.

After managing to wrangle the wallaby out of the water, Earley drove to shore where the damp and presumably relieved mammal was safely released back on to dry land. But not before Earley and his little friend got a selfie together.
