Jimmy Kimmel fact-checks Trump's 'rounding the corner' COVID claim in bleak supercut

The U.S. set a new daily record for coronavirus cases last week, and is now in a third wave of infections. There have been over 8.5 million confirmed infections in America and over 223,000 deaths, with the death toll expected to more than double by March next year.

Yet President Donald Trump apparently believes things are looking up, opting to completely ignore the overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

"Even though the virus is on the rise in almost every state and all over the world, fear not, because the president says we're 'rounding the corner'," said Jimmy Kimmel sarcastically on Tuesday night.

Kimmel then proceeded to play a montage of the president saying just that, annotated with the dates on which he said it and the seven-day average new case count for each one. Starting with Trump making the claim while 41,787 new cases were being reported on September 4, the grim supercut ends with 69,692 new reported cases on October 26, almost two months later.

For the record, 69,692 is a significantly higher number than 41,787.

"We are absolutely rounding the corner," says Trump over footage of a car racing around a corner and tumbling straight off a cliff. "Other than the fake news [that] wants to scare everybody, we are absolutely rounding the corner."

"Is it possible that Trump knows he's gonna lose [so] he's decided to take as many of us with him as possible, like a pharaoh who wants to be buried with his minions?" Kimmel wondered aloud.

Please, vote.
