If you grew up anytime within the past three decades, there's a good chance you grew up with Jumanji the book. And if you grew up anytime within the past two decades, there's a good chance you grew up with Jumanji the movie.
Now the kids today are growing up with ... Jumanji the video game?
Okay, to be clear: Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is a movie, starring Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black.
But it's a movie based on the premise that Jumanji – you know, that horrifying board game that unleashed lions upon suburbia and trapped Robin Williams in a jungle for 26 years – was adapted into an old-school video game at some point. Who would do such a thing? And why?
Maybe Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle will explain, and maybe it won't. In the meantime, though, it does answer some other questions you might have, like "What would Jack Black be like as a teenage mean girl?" and "What would Dwayne Johnson be like as a teenage nerd?"
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is in theaters December 20.
