Poor kangaroo rescued after getting stuck in a canal

From time to time, kangaroos wander out into the water in Australia -- sometimes just to cool off.

It's not so leisurely for this young male kangaroo, who has somehow fallen into a canal. So it's left to the folks at Australia Zoo's Rescue Unit to help fetch this little fella out of the water.

The rescue isn't as simple as picking the kangaroo up and putting it in a boat, as its human rescuers were met with a bit of resistance from the marsupial, despite the pressing time constraints.

"The Rescue Unit knew that they had to work quickly, the water levels were rising as the tide came in and it was only a matter of time before the barnacles on the rocks would cause serious injury to the kangaroo’s feet," according to the video's description.

It was sedated, then taken to dry land where its feet were washed with disinfectant before it woke up and went on its merry way.
