Anyone who's ever read Louisa May Alcott's Little Women (or maybe just seen the 1994 movie) knows that the story of the March sisters is one of the most enduring and relatable narratives in the American canon. Who can forget Amy burning Jo's manuscript, or the tossing of the pickled limes, or hoping every time that somehow Beth stays away from the scarlet fever house?

The first trailer for Greta Gerwig's upcoming adaptation shows how well her fantastic cast (including Saoirse Ronan, Laura Dern, Meryl Streep, Timothée Chalamet, Emma Watson, Eliza Scanlen) has captured Alcott's iconic characters — so be prepared to go through a lot of tissues when Little Women is finally out in theaters.

Little Women arrives in theaters December 25.
