Sorry, American Horror Story, but the scariest fictional footage online today is the trailer for director Tom Ford's Nocturnal Animals, starring Amy Adams. Adams plays Susan, whose ex-husband (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) wrote Nocturnal Animals, a disturbing book named for a nickname he gave her and depicting violent and abusive situations.

The film costars Jake Gyllenhaal as Susan's current husband, as well as Laura Linney, Michael Shannon, Armie Hammer and more. Ford is best known for directing 2009's A Single Man, which he also co-wrote in addition to directing (the screenplay for Nocturnal is entirely Ford's own).

Nocturnal Animals is due for wide release Dec. 9.
