This may seem like a clip from some kind of coming-of-age movie, but it appears to be real life.

On Sunday, Zach Pierce shared the above Nest security cam footage on YouTube and Reddit. The video shows a panicked kid running into his driveway, jumping into a handy garbage bin, and closing the lid. 30 seconds later, a police officer -- who is clearly looking for him -- stalks by.

According to Pierce's comments on Reddit, the kid stayed in the bin -- which reportedly "smells of cat piss and baby poop" -- for a solid 30 minutes. The end of the video shows him climbing back out again, acting casual at first, and then sprinting off down the road.

"I did not get a clear answer on what the kid did," Pierce wrote in another comment, suggesting shoplifting, but there's nothing to suggest this from the video.

Whatever it was, the kid's efforts to evade capture might have been in vain. According to Pierce, he was reportedly caught about an hour later, but the details are vague, and police confirmation is yet to be presented.

Still, at least he had his moment of viral fame.

Mashable has reached out for more information on this intriguing turn of events, and we'll update this post when we hear back.
