Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update refrained from hitting the big news items but still landed some below-the-belt jokes, in host Brendan Gleeson's first-ever episode.

Segment hosts Michael Che and Colin Jost tossed around a pun or two and riffed on the recent news that HBO Max's Velma is openly a lesbian (Yes, Colin, that is a "finally" moment!), as well as some too-personal national holiday reflections (We're doing dad issues again?).

The two ended the spot with a pointed joke about Hefty's new pumpkin spice-scented trash bags. Twitter's probably going to have a field day with that one.
