Ensign Beckett Mariner sky dives in "Star Trek: Lower Decks,"

Have you ever had a boss that would cut off their nose to spite their face? So has Beckett Mariner, the Starfleet ensign in the above clip. In the second episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 3, "The Least Dangerous Game," she's under the command of arrogant Jack Ransom (voiced by Jerry O'Connell), whose bad calls push her over the edge. Specifically, they push Beckett (voiced by Tawny Newsome) to engage in some unsanctioned skydiving.

Now, Star Trek fans might recognize this action setpiece from Star Trek (2009). But like we've said before, you don't need to be a Trekkie to get the jokes on Lower Decks. Even if you view the show as a sci-fi version of The Office, where inept leadership collides with a goofball staff, you'll appreciate this bit of rule-breaking and the requisite ass-covering that follows.

To see how Beckett's latest misadventure turns out, tune in to Lower Decks.

Star Trek: Lower Decks is streaming on Paramount+. Season 3 premiered on Aug. 25, with new episodes debuting every Thursday.
