Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden announced Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate this week, and President Donald Trump is predictably already on the attack. However, as Late Show host Stephen Colbert noted, Trump is still literally workshopping "effective nicknames" for Harris, simply calling her "nasty" in the meantime.
"How lazy are you? You're just repeating what you said about Hillary!" said Colbert on Wednesday night. "You're stuck in 2016 and that's not fair. Why should you be the only one who gets to live in a time when you're not president?"
Colbert further responded to Trump's bizarre attempt to characterise Harris as "the most liberal person, supposedly, in the Senate" by pointing out Harris is an establishment Democrat and former prosecutor.
"It is so clear that Trump had a different set of opponents in mind, and now he's having trouble changing strategies," said Colbert, before breaking out his Trump impersonation. "'Ah, ah, Kamala Harris is a socialist! She's Pocahontas — she's Poca-Harris! Also the internet is full of toxic Biden bros! Quick, please someone tell me she had an email server!"
Though Trump is now loudly denouncing Harris as "nasty," he didn't always hold this opinion. Both he and his wife Ivanka actually donated to Harris' campaign for Attorney General of California several years ago.
"Wow, that is embarrassing — for Kamala Harris," quipped Colbert.
