Stephen Colbert has had enough of the Republican National Convention.

He didn't watch it on Wednesday, and on Thursday he only tuned in for the president's speech — but that alone provided more than enough material for his live monologue on Thursday.

Starting out with a bit of green screen fun on Melania's very colourful dress, the host quickly moved onto the president's predictably odd address, starting with a clip of Donald Trump saying he "profoundly" accepts the nomination.

"Profoundly accept? That is a super weird choice of adverb," says Colbert, before launching into his trademark Trump impression. "I searchingly thank you, I will tightly work hard to abdominally earn it."

Colbert then plays a clip of Trump describing Americans as having "grit in their souls and fire in their hearts" ("Quick note," the host chimes in, "if you are experiencing soul grit or fire heart, please get tested for coronavirus"), and then a clip of Trump reminiscing about the likes of Annie Oakley and Buffalo Bill.

"He had a woman in a well, Buffalo Bill," says Colbert/Trump. "She put the lotion in the basket, Buffalo Bill — great American, wonderful tailor — he made this suit, and my face."

The highlight of the whole thing, though?

Colbert breaking out of his monologue to jokingly argue with someone off camera, after he accidentally says "Bidey" instead of "Biden" (jump to 6:32 in the video).
